  • Shaving your head might seem easy at first glance but there are a few tips and tricks to achieve a close, comfortable shave and maintain your new bald style. With the right tools and techniques, shaving your head can become a simple routine you enjoy. Here are the essential steps to follow for your first - or next - head shave.

    Prep your hair

Start with trimming your hair very short with clippers to about 1/8 inch or shorter. You can also use a buzzer. This makes it easier for the razor to glide over your scalp.

    Warm up your scalp

Take a warm or hot shower to help soften the hair and open your pores. This will also reduce skin irritation during shaving.

    Apply shaving cream or gel

Use a shaving cream or gel specifically made for head shaving. This will lubricate the hair, protect your skin and help get a closer shave. Massage it into your scalp thoroughly.

    Choose the right razor

For easiest and safest shaving, use a multi-blade electric razor specifically designed for head shaving. Avoid standard razors meant for faces.

Start at the back and work in sections

Begin at the nape of your neck and work upwards in sections to maintain visibility and control. Use long, slow strokes following your natural hair pattern.

Rinse and refresh the razor regularly

After each section, rinse off hair from the razor blades under warm running water to prevent clogging.

    Apply aftershave and moisturizer

Once complete, splash on some alcohol-free aftershave to soothe irritation and moisturize your scalp to replenish lost natural oils.

    Store your razor properly

Clean the blades of your razor and spray with cleansing solution to remove hair and oil buildup. Store the razor in a protective case or spray again with lubricant to prevent corrosion.

    Replace blades regularly

Replace your razor blades every 3-6 months depending on usage. Dull blades can cause irritation and missed spots.

    Re-shave as needed

New hair growth will appear within a week so consider re-shaving every 3-7 days depending on your hair coarseness. With practice, you'll fine tune your technique for an easy, irritation-free head shave every time.

With the right tools, products and technique, shaving your head can become a simple self-care routine you enjoy. Following these 10 tips will help you achieve a close, comfortable head shave and maintain your new bald style with ease. Happy shaving!
